Ok so you hand over the MODX manager control to your client and they login only to find out (by looking at the MODX News box) that they are not using the latest MODX version. They flip and call you on the phone wondering why you would do such a thing as to give them an out of date version. You ensure them that everything is fine but mark down the necessity to upgrade their site.
There is a way inside MODX to change what goes into the MODX News and Security Notices boxes. You can also hide those boxes altogether if you wish. Here is a brief description of how it's done and then a short video tutorial as well.
Changing the box titles
- Under the SYSTEM tab in the manager choose LEXICON MANAGEMENT.
- Click the dropdown box to the right of the TOPIC button and choose WELCOME.
- Rename the first 2 options which are MODX NEWS and SECURITY NOTICES to anything you would like to use as titles.
Changing the content of the boxes
- Under the SYSTEM tab choose SYSTEM SETTINGS.
- Click the FILTER BY AREA dropdown box and choose SYSTEM AND SERVER.
- Locate the MODX NEWS FEED URL field and the MODX SECURITY NOTICES FEED URL and copy in the URL to your feeds you want in those boxes.
Removing the boxes from the manager page
- Under the SYSTEM tab choose SYSTEM SETTINGS.
- Click the FILTER BY AREA dropdown box and choose SYSTEM AND SERVER.
- Locate the MODX NEWS FEED ENABLED and set it to NO and the MODX SECURITY NOTICES FEED ENABLED and set it to NO.
What if nothing happens when I make the changes?
It's possible that you make these changes and the old boxes still appear with no changes. If clearing the cache doesn't work then click on the FILES tab on the left and locate the core/cache/system settings folder. You should see a file called config.cache.php. Delete the file (right-click and remove). The system will re-create the file and use the new settings. Now hitting the HOME tab at the top should bring you back to the MODX manager home page and the new settings should be in effect.
